A Grand Gesture feels like an open question, like a “here- you tell me what its about…”
Dunno yet, to date I have made 37 which leaves another 963 open questions, blank spaces to explore. We’ll see. Meantime, some thoughts on the topic from my mindbrain:
Ideas about accumulation and how we value things based on the experience we imagine is possible, which in turn is a result of the stories we tell that associate our identities with aspects of that thing/object. Neat, huh?
Reminds me of middle college years hosted a few parties with some friends… PLUR was the thing in the 90’s desert rave culture. Peace Love Unity Respect. Perfect Party Protocol. So… themed parties and at one (imagine it was the “Love” that’s a nice fit… underwater theme, bubble machine) I had a few sheets of small blue smiley face stickers (funny, as I write this ATB “Movin’ Melodies” streams through my random list. Ah, techno perfect for the time.
Untz… Untz… Untz…
Right, so- blue smiley face stickers. I had a few sheets of them, some sticker stationary pack… as we were hosting, I would welcome guests to the party, make sure they were sharing the vibe, take ‘em around and then head back to the door and meet a fresh person- to keep track of who I was talking with (and probably to deal with my own nervousness to some extent) I would “sell” them each on the idea of wearing this tiny little blue sticker. Difficult at first, because weird, and why does this guy care so much about this little sticker? Then social proof, people start seeing more and more stickers around, and geez, I’m happy too, I like stickers… hey where do I get one? At some point the gal I was dating (college) came up in tears… “where is MY sticker…?” She kinda felt left out… Whups! … (OY)… But, …interesting- right?
I often develop a rapport with the objects that stimulate my sensing… I love when the relationship between elements holds a tension- that middle place holds the stillness and provides the ground for transitions between elements/motifs/themes/marks. This dynamic tension is what I’m after… what I’m on about…. pretty Grand, right?
